STORY

Visual Comfort Whitman Desk Lamp, designed by Thomas O'Brien for the Whitman range, pairs a layered shade composition with warm metalwork to provide focused desk illumination. The design combines a shallow dome and two smaller cylindrical shades to create a considered, multi-level light form.

The lamp's three-tiered shade system is engineered to diffuse light downward while shielding the bulb from view. The Whitman is offered in Hand‑Rubbed Antique Brass finish and presents a clean silhouette suited to contemporary and transitional desks or bedside tables.

Shades are formed from an opaque opal white material with a smooth finish, matched to metal components — a flat circular base, slender vertical stem and top finial — in a warm brushed brass tone. A small decorative finial secures the shade assembly.

Light is directed downward across three levels to deliver soft, task-focused illumination while minimising glare. The tiered geometry creates a gentle ambience around the work area rather than a single harsh beam.

An integrated cylindrical rotary switch on the stem provides power and basic light-level control at the lamp. The Whitman carries an IP20 rating for indoor use and is intended for tabletop placement. A 2D paper template for checking scale is available on request.
