Find the right design service for your project

Whether you are planning a new build, renovation, garden scheme or commercial fit-out, the right service depends on how far your project has progressed. Choose the route that best matches your current stage.

  • Are your lighting positions still flexible?

Best for new builds, renovations, extensions and fit-outs before first fix or before the electrical layout is finalised.

  • Are your lighting points already fixed?

Best when the electrician, architect or builder has already decided the lighting layout, but you need expert help choosing suitable fittings.

  • Is the project mainly outdoors?

Best for gardens, terraces, facades, driveways, paths, pools and outdoor living spaces.

  • Need focused lighting help by the hour?

Best for solving one problem area in isolation, reviewing a layout, checking product choices, handling extra revisions or answering specific lighting questions.

Common lighting problems we help avoid

Lighting mistakes are easiest to prevent before electrical work begins. A proper lighting design gives you a clear plan for placement, products, controls and coordination.

  • Poorly placed fittings

Lights are often positioned for convenience rather than effect, leaving glare, shadows, dark corners or awkward ceiling layouts. A lighting plan places fittings where they work for the room, the furniture and the way the space will be used.

  • Too many downlights

Rows of downlights can make a space feel flat, harsh or over-lit. Good lighting uses layers — ambient, task, accent and decorative — so the room has comfort, depth and atmosphere.

  • The wrong products

A fitting can look right online but fail in the room. Output, beam angle, colour temperature, dimming, IP rating and trim style all affect the final result. We specify products that match the space and the design intent.

  • Poor switching and control

Good lighting can be spoiled by bad switching. If circuits, dimmers and scenes are not planned properly, the space becomes awkward to use. We consider how each area should be controlled before installation begins.

  • Late-stage changes

Lighting decisions made after first fix can mean extra electrical work, compromised positions and rushed product choices. Planning early gives your electrician a clear layout before the work begins.

  • Unclear instructions for the installer

Even a good idea can fail if it is not clearly documented. We provide a lighting layout, schedule and quotation so your electrician, builder or contractor has a practical design pack to work from.

What you receive

We turn your ideas, vision, plans or brief into a clear lighting design pack. Depending on the service selected, this includes a consultation, lighting layout, product schedule, lighting calculations where required, quotation and one revision cycle. Your final pack is designed to help you review the scheme, brief your electrician, order the correct fittings and avoid last-minute substitutions.

  • Design consultation

A focused consultation to review your plans, understand your goals and agree the right lighting direction.

  • Marked-up lighting plan

Fixture positions, lighting types and key design notes marked up on your architectural plan.

  • Lighting calculations

Light-level calculations where needed for function, comfort or compliance.

  • Lighting schedule & quotation

A structured list of specified fittings, quantities and key product details, supplied with a quotation for the recommended products.

  • 3D renders

Simple 3D visuals showing the proposed lighting effect where they add value to the design.

  • Review & Revision

One review cycle to discuss the design and make agreed amendments from a consolidated set of comments.

💡Plan your lighting before first fix

Before first fix is the best time to plan your lighting.

Once cables are run and ceilings are closed, fitting positions become harder and more expensive to change. Early lighting design lets us plan the layout, layers and controls properly before your electrician starts work.

Already past first fix? Don't worry, our Lighting Selection Service can help you choose suitable fittings for the lighting points you already have.

Frequently asked questions

What is a lighting design service?

A lighting design service creates a tailored lighting plan for your space, including fixture placement, lighting layers, product recommendations, controls and supporting documentation.

What is not included?

Our lighting design pack does not replace the work of your electrician, electrical contractor or engineer. We provide the lighting layout, product specification and design guidance; your installer is responsible for wiring, installation, certification and compliance with local electrical regulations.

Do I need architectural plans?

Architectural plans are strongly recommended. If you do not have plans, we may be able to work from sketches, notes and photos, but plan preparation may be charged separately.

Do I have to buy the lighting from you?

No. You are free to source your own fittings. The design-fee credit only applies when you purchase lighting through us.

What if my lighting points are already fixed?

Use the Product Selection Service. It is designed for projects where the electrical layout is already decided and you need help choosing suitable fittings.

Do you install the lighting?

No. We provide the lighting design, product specification and quotation. Your electrician, builder or contractor carries out the installation.

How long does the design process take?

This depends on project size and complexity, but most lighting designs take around 1-3 weeks from consultation to completion.

What changes are included?

One consolidated revision cycle is included after the initial design. Further revisions, late-stage changes or revised architectural plans may be charged hourly.

Can you design outdoor lighting?

Yes. We design lighting for gardens, terraces, facades, paths, patios and outdoor living spaces. Use our Outdoor & Garden Lighting Package for gardens, terraces, facades, paths, patios and outdoor living spaces.
