Graduated entry corridor

Creating a physical transition space—an entry corridor or vestibule—with progressively decreasing light levels gives eyes time to dark-adapt before reaching the main venue. This prevents the disorienting 'blindness' of walking from bright street light directly into a dark club.

Complex Mid-Range
Approach Detail

Design entry sequence with 3-4 light zones: exterior (ambient or accent lit), vestibule (50% of exterior), transition hall (25%), then main venue (full darkness). Use timed automatic dimming if space allows, or fixed progressive zones. Paint walls dark in transition zones to minimize reflections. Include subtle accent lighting (uplights, LED strips) to guide path without providing general illumination.

Key Fixtures

Adjustable wall wash fixtures, LED step lights, dark surface finishes, optional auto-dimming controls

Designer Notes

Render showing sequence from street to interior. Outside: city street level. Vestibule: noticeably dimmer, hints of color. Corridor: dark with subtle accent lighting guiding path. Interior: the destination glow ahead. Show the journey, the anticipation building.
