Hinkley Quincy Chain Lantern

The Hinkley Quincy Chain Lantern is an outdoor ceiling-mounted chain lantern from Hinkley’s Quincy range. Its traditional bell-shaped silhouette is designed to provide ambient illumination in covered outdoor areas such as porches and entryways.

Formally the lantern pairs a clear, seedy outer bell with a simple metal frame and a restrained U-shaped arch, offering a nostalgic early-American character. The unit is suspended from a circular ceiling canopy by a metal chain connected to a ring at the top of the frame; the chain allows you to adjust hanging height to suit porch proportions.

Construction is robust and considered: the frame and suspension components are die-cast aluminium finished in a dark tone, while the outer shade is clear seedy glass with visible air bubbles. Inside the bell sits a smaller etched opal glass cylinder that conceals the light source.

The inner etched cylinder diffuses the lamp to produce a soft, even ambient light and creates the impression of a ‘faux’ candle without exposing the lamp directly. This layered glass approach reduces glare and gives the lantern a distinctive, textured glow suited to welcoming entrances.

For practical use the fitting carries an IP23 rating, making it suitable for covered outdoor locations where it will be sheltered from direct weather.
