STORY

The Visual Comfort Library Picture Light, designed by Thomas O'Brien, is a wall-mounted picture light that brings a classic library sensibility to artwork lighting. Its semi-cylindrical hood and rectangular backplate recall traditional picture lamps while delivering a measured, directional wash of light for paintings, prints and shelving.

The design features a long, horizontal hood supported by short, angled arms and decorative spherical end knobs that act as pivot points for angling the shade. This piece is offered in Hand-Rubbed Antique Brass and Bronze finish options to suit traditional and period-led interiors.

Construction details include a recessed, beveled rectangular backplate which secures the fitting to the wall and supports the hood at each end. The visible finish is intentionally distressed with a mottled, aged patina that emphasises a handcrafted character.

Light is directed downwards from the wide, linear shade to create an even wash over a broad surface — ideal for artwork. The fixture accepts E26 T10 lamp types and is offered with frosted LED options (4W, 350lm) in warm 2700K or 3000K; lamps are available as an option. The unit is rated IP20 for indoor, dry-location use.

For installation we recommend sizing the shade to roughly half the width of the artwork and aiming the light at about a 30° angle for even coverage. The backplate mounts directly to the wall; the adjustable end knobs allow fine angling on site to remove glare and balance the illumination.
