STORY

The Visual Comfort Charlton Table Lamp, designed by Aerin Lauder for the Charlton range, is a considered table and desk lamp that pairs a mid-century modern language with practical articulation. Metal construction and visible brass hardware give it a calm, refined presence suited to desks, bedside tables and sideboards.

Formally the lamp combines a slender vertical stem with an extended horizontal arm and a wide, curved conical shade. The arm and shade pivot at articulated brass joints to allow precise positioning; the Charlton is offered in Black and White finishes with contrasting brass details.

Built mainly from metal, the lamp sits on a weighted round base for stability. Dimensions are adjustable: height 43.2–68.6cm, overall width 24.2cm and a 20.4cm round base; the fitting weighs 3.6kg. The curved shade features small perforations near its upper rim, which allow decorative light to escape.

Light is delivered through a standard E27 keyless socket operated by a line switch, making the Charlton suitable for task lighting where directed illumination is required. The articulated head and arm enable accurate control of beam direction while the shade controls glare and produces a balanced local ambience.

For installation and specification: the lamp is IP20 and Class II, so it is designed for dry indoor locations rather than bathrooms or outdoors. It requires an E27 lamp (not included); refer to the manufacturer for maximum lamp wattage and any dimming compatibility with selected bulbs.
