What your interior lighting design package includes

The Interior Lighting Design Package gives you a clear, professional lighting plan for your home, renovation, extension or interior design project.

Use this service when your lighting positions are still flexible and you want the layout, product choices, controls and final specification planned before electrical work begins. Instead of relying on generic downlight grids or last-minute product decisions, our lighting designers create a joined-up scheme based on your plans, brief, style and practical requirements.

This package is ideal for:

  • New-build homes

  • Renovations and extensions

  • Whole-home refurbishments

  • Kitchen, dining and open-plan living spaces

  • Apartments and townhouses

  • Interior designer-led projects

  • Homeowners who want a clear plan before first fix

  • Architects, builders and project managers who need a practical lighting design layer

Your design package typically includes:

  • A marked-up interior lighting plan

  • Fixture positions and lighting types

  • Lighting layers for ambient, task, accent and decorative lighting

  • Switching, dimming and control guidance

  • Lighting calculations where required

  • Product recommendations suited to the space and design intent

  • A structured lighting schedule

  • A quotation for the recommended fittings

  • A review process before the final design pack is issued

Good interior lighting is not just about choosing attractive fittings. The position, output, beam angle, colour temperature, glare control, dimming compatibility and control zones all affect how a room feels and functions. A strong lighting design helps each space work properly for cooking, relaxing, reading, entertaining, dressing, working and moving through the home.

Before we start, send us your plans, drawings, sketches, photos, room notes, finishes, furniture layouts and any lighting ideas you already have. We use this information to understand how each space will be used, where light is needed, what atmosphere you want and what practical constraints need to be considered.

The final design pack is intended to help you review the scheme, brief your electrician or contractor, order the correct fittings and avoid last-minute substitutions. You do not have to buy your lighting from us, but if you do, your eligible design fee can be credited against your lighting order, subject to our design-fee credit terms.

Choose the Interior Lighting Design Package when you want a complete lighting design process rather than hourly advice or product selection alone.

Common interior lighting problems we help avoid

Interior lighting mistakes are easiest to prevent before electrical work begins. A proper lighting design helps you avoid weak layouts, unsuitable fittings, poor control logic and decisions that become expensive to fix later.

  • Poorly placed fittings

Lights are often positioned for ceiling symmetry rather than how the room is used. We plan fixture positions around furniture, circulation, tasks and the lighting effect required.

  • Too many downlights

A grid of downlights can make rooms feel flat, harsh or over-lit. We balance downlights with task, accent and decorative lighting to create a more comfortable scheme.

  • Poor switching and dimming

If too many fittings sit on one switch, the room becomes hard to use. We plan sensible switching, dimming and control zones for everyday living.

  • Dark corners and weak task light

Kitchens, desks, mirrors, wardrobes and reading areas need light in the right place. We identify where task lighting is required before the wiring is fixed.

  • Glare and uncomfortable brightness

Bright fittings, exposed sources and poor beam angles can make rooms uncomfortable. We consider glare, shielding, output and placement when selecting fittings.

  • Unclear instructions for the electrician

Vague lighting ideas often become site improvisation. A clear design pack helps your electrician understand positions, products and control intent before work starts.

What your interior lighting design package includes

Your Interior Lighting Design Package gives you a structured lighting plan for the inside of your home or project. We review your plans, understand how each room will be used, design the lighting layout, specify suitable fittings and prepare a clear pack for your electrician, builder or design team.

  • Design consultation

A focused consultation to review your plans, understand your goals and agree the right lighting direction for each interior space.

  • Marked-up lighting plan

Fixture positions, lighting types and the key design notes marked up on your architectural plan where suitable.

  • Checks and calculations

Lighting calculations where required to assess brightness, comfort, glare and relevant project requirements.

  • Controls & dimming

Suggested switching, dimming and control zones so the lighting works naturally in everyday use.

  • Schedule and quotation

A structured schedule of recommended fittings, quantities and key product details, supplied with a quotation for the specified products.

  • 3D visuals

Rendered 3D views used where modelling is needed to confirm the lighting effect and validate the design.

💡Plan your lighting before first fix

The best time to design your interior lighting is before first-fix electrical work begins. At that stage, fixture positions, switching, dimming, control zones and product choices can still be planned properly.

Once cables are run and ceilings are closed, changes become more disruptive, more expensive and more compromised. A clear lighting design gives your electrician, builder or contractor a practical plan before work starts.

If your lighting points are already fixed and you mainly need help choosing fittings, our Lighting Selection Service may be the better option.

Frequently asked questions

What is included in the Interior Lighting Design Package?

Your package can include a marked-up lighting plan, fixture positions, lighting layers, control guidance, lighting calculations where required, product recommendations, a lighting schedule, quotation support and a final design pack.

Who is this package for?

It is suitable for homeowners, interior designers, architects, builders and project managers working on new builds, renovations, extensions, apartments and interior design projects.

Can you design lighting for just one room?

Yes. You can use the package for a single room, selected rooms or a whole-home scheme. Choose the project-size band that matches the area you want us to design.

Do I need architectural plans?

Architectural plans are strongly recommended because they allow us to create a more accurate lighting layout. If you do not have plans, we may be able to work from sketches, photos, dimensions and notes, but additional time may be required.

When should I order the design package?

Ideally before first-fix electrical work, while lighting positions, switching and cable routes are still flexible. The earlier we are involved, the more options you usually have.

Will I receive a lighting schedule?

Yes. The package can include a structured lighting schedule showing recommended fittings, quantities and key product details.

Do you provide lighting calculations?

Yes, where required. Calculations may be used to check brightness, comfort, glare and relevant project requirements.

What is not included?

Electrical installation, certification, structural design, full photorealistic rendering and unlimited revisions are not included unless agreed separately.

Do you include 3D visuals?

Yes, where they are useful. We can provide rendered 3D views to show the proposed lighting effect and help you understand the design. These are practical lighting design renders, not full photorealistic interior visualisations.

Do I have to buy the lights from you?

No. You are free to buy elsewhere. If you do buy your lighting from us, your eligible design fee can be credited against your lighting order, subject to our design-fee credit terms.

Do you install the lighting?

No. We provide lighting design, product guidance and quotation support. Your electrician, builder or contractor carries out installation and certification.

Is this the right design service for your project?

Whether you are planning a new build, renovation, garden scheme or commercial fit-out, the right service depends on how far your project has progressed. Choose the route that best matches your current stage.

  • Are your lighting positions still flexible?

Best for new builds, renovations, extensions and fit-outs before first fix or before the electrical layout is finalised.

  • Are your lighting points already fixed?

Best when the electrician, architect or builder has already decided the lighting layout, but you need expert help choosing suitable fittings.

  • Is the project mainly outdoors?

Best for gardens, terraces, facades, driveways, paths, pools and outdoor living spaces.

  • Need focused lighting help by the hour?

Best for solving one focused lighting problem, reviewing a layout, checking product choices, handling extra revisions or answering specific lighting questions.
