Silhouette and rim effect

Rather than front-lighting, this technique places light sources behind mannequins to create silhouettes and glowing edges. Particularly effective for evening display when the backlit effect contrasts against dark exteriors.

Medium Mid-Range
Approach Detail

Position linear LED or softbox-style lights behind mannequins, facing toward the window glass. The mannequin blocks direct light, creating a silhouette effect with a glowing rim around the edges. Add subtle front fill (20% of back light intensity) to prevent complete silhouette. Works with colored lighting for seasonal drama.

Key Fixtures

Linear LED fixtures, softbox-style panel lights, optional color-changing capability, low-level front fill

Designer Notes

RENDER SETUP: Window display at night, dark exterior. Mannequin with strong backlight creating rim effect. Minimal front fill showing some garment detail. Camera from dark exterior.

HOW TO LIGHT IT: Backlight - Linear LED panel or strip (40W, 3000K or RGB) positioned behind mannequin at 1.5-2m height. Creates rim effect around figure silhouette. Front fill - Subtle downlight or reflected light at 20% of back intensity to show garment detail without killing silhouette. Colored option: RGB backlight for seasonal drama.

EFFECTS TO SHOWCASE: Dramatic silhouette against lit backdrop, glowing rim around mannequin edge, nighttime street impact, artistic/luxury presentation, seasonal color capability.
