Graduated brightness transition

Graduated brightness transition

A well-designed entrance uses graduated brightness levels that allow guest eyes to adapt from outdoor brightness (or darkness) to dining room levels. The entry is brighter, the host stand intermediate, and the dining room appropriately dim.

Medium Mid-Range
Approach Detail

Entry vestibule: 30-50 fc. Host stand: 20-30 fc. Transition zone: 15-20 fc. Dining room: 5-15 fc. Use dimmers to adjust all zones for time-of-day. Warmer CCT as brightness decreases. Include floor-level lighting if possible.

Key Fixtures

Decorative pendants or chandeliers at entry, recessed adjustables at host, cove lighting for transition

Designer Notes

RENDER GUIDANCE: Show view from entrance looking into restaurant. Brighter entry zone transitioning to moodier dining room. Host stand as intermediate brightness. Warm and welcoming overall. Include visible path toward dining. Evening exterior visible through door/windows.
