Dark gallery with safety pathway

Video galleries require darkness for image quality but must remain safe. This solution uses floor-integrated pathway lighting—low-level, shielded LEDs in the floor or at baseboard level—to mark circulation routes without emitting enough light to affect screens or projections.

Medium Mid-Range
Approach Detail

Define primary circulation paths through the space. Install linear LED strips in floor channels or at baseboard level, 50-100mm above floor, shielded with cowls to direct light downward only. Use red or amber spectrum (less perceptible to dark-adapted eyes, minimal screen interference). Target 2-5 lux at floor level. Include brighter node points (10 lux) at decision points and exits. Ensure emergency egress lighting meets code while still minimizing screen interference—use similar floor-level approach with increased output. Motion-sensing option can raise pathway lighting when visitors approach.

Key Fixtures

Floor-recessed linear LED, baseboard-mounted shielded strips, red/amber spectrum sources, emergency egress integration.

Designer Notes

Render from visitor perspective showing the subtle glow of floor pathway leading through darkness toward luminous screens. Show how the pathway is visible without competing with the video work. Include a detail of the shielded floor fixture.

Best For
Dedicated video galleries, installation spaces with projection, screening rooms within galleries.
