Recessed headboard reading light

Recessed headboard reading light

For ultimate discretion and focus, reading lights can be built into the headboard structure—either in a recessed niche above each pillow or integrated into the headboard face. This approach provides the tightest beam control and most seamless aesthetic but requires custom millwork or headboard fabrication.

Complex Premium
Approach Detail

Work with a millworker or furniture maker to create a headboard with integrated lighting. Position lights directly above each pillow, 8-12 inches above head height when lying down. Use very narrow beam (10-15 degree) LEDs. Include rotary or touch dimming for each light. Consider warm-dim LEDs that get warmer as they dim. Coordinate with headboard upholstery or wood design.

Key Fixtures

Miniature LED spotlights for furniture integration; 1-2 inch diameter recessed LED downlights; linear slot fixtures for headboard integration; custom LED modules

Designer Notes

Close-up of custom headboard showing integrated reading light in recessed niche. Light on, creating focused pool on pillow area. Show luxurious headboard material—leather, rich fabric, or walnut. Minimal, hotel-like aesthetic. Include portion of bed with high-thread-count linens. Evening scene. Light should appear architectural, not like an add-on fixture.

Best For
New construction or major bedroom renovations; design enthusiasts who prioritize integrated aesthetics; those wanting hotel-suite sophistication; custom home projects.
